These hens have laid many eggs for us and are no longer laying. Their meat is tougher, and is great for soups and stews. It is sought after in some cultures.

About Laying Hens
These chickens are given more space than our meat birds. We typically keep them in production for a full year before replacing them with younger birds. In the winter, they are kept indoors on deep bedding with lots of space, and outdoor access.
